University of South Carolina - College of Education

usc MASTERS OF ART IN TEACHING (MAT) - The MAT program leads to a
masters degree and initial teacher certification in Elementary or Early
Childhood Education from the state of South Carolina. The MAT
program offers choices to people who decide to become professional
educators after they have finished other undergraduate programs and
have entered a career in another field, enabling a career change.
Each week, approximately twenty MAT students visit the school to
observe teaching techniques associated with an inquiry -based
curriculum.

Our CAPRA Nationally Accredited Partner
Our partners, the Richland County Recreation Commission (RCRC)
achieved the goal of becoming nationally accredited after investing two very challenging years in the difficult process. There are over 19,000 parks and recreation agencies located throughout the US. Since the accreditation program began seventeen years ago, only sixty-six of these agencies have been able to meet the stringent requirements to become accredited. Not only is RCRC one of the sixty-six, but have also earned the distinction of being the first and only agency nationally accredited in South Carolina. We are proud to have them as our partners. Congratulations RCRC....job well done!

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM - Carolina School for Inquiry is
partnering with Richland County Recreation Commission in offering
an After School Program.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH - Programs are currently being
developed to enhance interaction between the students and the
elderly community visiting the center. These programs will include
literacy programs, shared gardens and mentoring.
