Q. Who can apply to the charter school?
Enrollment for the school year is open to all students kindergarten through fifth grade. Priority is
given to families residing in District 1. See the lottery information on the Enrollment and
Admissions page for more information on how priority is given.

Q.  Who is eligible?
Any child who will be in grades K-5 may apply.

Q.  How many students may attend?
108 students will be enrolled at full capacity, with 18 children in each of the six classrooms.

Q.  What if I have two elementary school children?
You may enroll both children. In the event of a lottery, if one sibling is drawn, the other will
automatically be enrolled.

Q.  Do SC State Curriculum standards apply?
Students learn the same curriculum content as all other Richland One students.

Q.  Can my child transfer into the program during the school year?
No. Students are selected before the beginning of the school year.

Q.  What about facilities like a library and cafeteria?
Students use the Crane Creek Community Center cafeteria and library.

Q.  Will my child participate in subjects like art, music, and PE?
Yes.  Through teaching partnerships with the Center for Inquiry, students will have classes in the
areas of art, physical education, music, foreign language, and computers.

Q.  Is transportation available?  
While the school will not offer bus transportation, a carpooling network will be established and all
families will be encouraged to participate.  No student will be denied access due to transportation
issues.

Q.  Is there an after school program?
An after school program is provided on campus through Richland County Recreation
Commission.

Q.  What If my child is currently in the ALERT program?
A child can retain his/her status as a gifted student, but there is not an ALERT component to this
program. The academic needs of gifted students are accommodated in each classroom.

Q.  What If I have a special needs child?
Any student in the district is welcome to apply to Carolina School for Inquiry.  We will employ a full
inclusion model of meeting the needs of all students.

Q.   Is there a full day kindergarten program?
Yes, the multi-age kindergarten/first grade class is a full-day program.

Q. What if we reside outside Richland District 1?
On a space available basis, enrollment is open to residents outside Richland School District One.

Q. Is priority given to experienced children who have been introduced to the inquiry based
teaching?
No. The charter school is open to all students. However, a hallmark of Carolina School for Inquiry
will be an inquiry based curriculum and all families should familiarize themselves with this
specialized curriculum in order to make the best choice for their child.
